Kyle McGowin struck out 11 batters while
Lee Moore drove in three runs as Savannah State captured a 7-0 win over Alabama A&M at Tiger Field.
McGowin pitched 7.2 innings and gave up 4 hits and 1 walk. Moore hit 4 singles and drove in runs in the 2nd, 7th and 8th innings.
Peter Poole led off the second inning with a walk and scored on a single by Moore to put SSU ahead 1-0.
The Tigers scored their remaining runs in the fifth thru eighth innings.
Todd Hagen led off the fifth with a single and later scored on a single by
Mendez Elder. In the sixth,
Parker Nix led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch.
The seventh inning saw SSU score twice. Elder walked while
Joseph McCrary and Nix hit back to back singles to lead the bases. Elder scored after Poole drew a walk. Skyler Strickland reached on a fielder's choice to re-load the bases and McCrary crossed home plate after a single by Moore.
The final runs of the contest came in the eighth.
Kevin Herlihy led off with a double and later scored on a passed ball. MCCrary, who walked, scored in the final run of the game, after a single by Moore.
The Tigers had 11 hits but left 14 runners on base.
Elder and Nix had two hits apiece while Nix scored twice.
The Bulldogs collected six hits and left seven men on base while making a pair of errors.
Patrick Dodson and Brad Black each had two hits for AAMU. Josh Freeman was tagged with the loss. Freeman pitched six innings and gave up 6 hits, 3 runs and 5 walks while striking out 3.
