Tigers Win Series With Presbyterian

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Mendez Elder and Parker Nix drove in two runs each to help Savannah State to a 8-4 victory over Presbyterian at Tiger Field.

The win gives SSU (3-1) the weekend series win over the Blue Hose.

Presbyterian scored one run in the top of the first and three in the third for a 4-0 lead.

Savannah State answered with four runs and four hits in the bottom of the third to tie the contest.

Antonio Scott was hit by a pitch and stole second. As Zach Bryant grounded out to the shortstop, Scott stole third and scored on an error. Todd Hagen and Kevin Herlihy hit back to back singles and Elder doubled home Hagen and Herlihy. Joseph McCrary walked and Chris Arnold singled to load the bases. David Richards reached on a fielder's choice which resulted in Elder and Arnold being thrown out at home but McCrary scoring a run which knotted the game at 4.

Hagen hit a RBI single in the fourth to put SSU ahead 5-4 and Nix pounded a two-run double in the fifth to give the Tigers a 7-4 lead.

The final run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth when McCrary's ground-out allowed Herlihy, who singled, to score.

The Tigers ended the game with 11 hits while Presbyterian had eight hits.

PC left 10 men on base while SSU stranded nine.

Elder, Nix, Hagen and Herlihy all had two hits apiece for the Tigers while Herlihy, McCrary and Scott all scored twice.

Sherman Graves earned the win for Savannah State. Graves pitched 2.2 innings and gave up one hit and two walks while striking out three.

Brandon Martin collected two hits for the Blue Hose. Conner Bishop took the loss as he gave up one hit, run, one walk while striking out one.
