Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C.- Howard rolled up 559 yards of offense as the Bison defeated Savannah State 42-14 in Greene Stadium, before a crowd of 3,053.
 
Quarterback Greg McGhee accounted for four touchdowns for the Bison. McGhee had touchdown runs of 53 and 27 yards while throwing two touchdown passes of six yards each.
 
Howard took the opening kickoff but fumbled on the second play of the game. The ball was forced by SSU cornerback Wayne Johnson and recovered by Savannah State linebacker Marquis Smith at the Tiger 28.
 
Under the direction of quarterback Leon Prunty, SSU (1-10, 0-7) marched 72 yards in eight plays to score a touchdown as Prunty threw a 32-yard touchdown to Simon Heyward. John Barron kicked the extra point and  the Tigers led 7-0 with 11:04 left in the first quarter.
 
It was the first offensive touchdown scored by SSU this season.
 
The key play on the drive was a 22 yard reception by Justin Brownlee that gave SSU a first down at the Bison 37.
 
Both teams had missed opportunities early in the second quarter as Howard missed two field goal attempts and SSU threw a interception.
 
Howard scored a touchdown on their second drive of the second quarter but missed the extra point.
 
The Bison scored touchdowns on their next two drives and took a 20-7 lead into the half.
 
Howard added another score on their first drive of the second half to extend their lead to 28-7.
 
On their third possession of the third quarter, SSU strung together a 92 yard drive that took 13 plays as Sheldon Barnes scored on a six yard run with 3:12 left in the quarter to cut the Tigers deficit to 28-14.
 
Key plays on the possession was a 11 yard run by Barnes and a 15 yard pass play from Victorian Hardison to Barnes.
 
The Bison (4-6, 3-4) added a late touchdown in the third quarter and another with 7:09 left in the fourth quarter for a commanding lead.
 
SSU only crossed midfield once in the second half.
 
Savannah State had 315 yards of offense with 176 passing and 139 rushing.
 
Anthony Criswell had 5 carries for 56 yards while Prunty completed 8 passes for 152 yards. Heyward caught 4 passes for 99 yards.
 
The SSU defense had four players with double digit tackles. Smith led the way with 13 followed by Trevion Ashford (12), Justin Dixon (11) and Johnson (10).
 
Cameron Ashford led the Bison defense with seven tackles. McGhee paced the offense with 326 yards passing and 148 rushing.
