Aggies Take DH from Savannah State

GREENSBORO, N.C.- North Carolina A&T swept a double header from Savannah State at War Memorial Stadium by scores of 9-4 and 8-7.

In the first game, A&T broke open a tie game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Aggies scored twice in the second for a 2-0 lead but SSU answered with three runs in the top of the third as Darien Campbell, Todd Hagen and Dychal Bowles all drove in runs.

A&T went ahead 4-3 in the fourth but SSU tied the game in the top of the fifth when Joseph McCrary hit a RBI single to bring home Justin Brown who led off the inning with a single.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Aggies scored five times off six hits and left two on base to go ahead 9-4.

Kyle McGowin, who struck out six batters in 4.1 innings on the mound for SSU, was tagged with the loss. Matt Oglesby had two singles for SSU. The Tigers only had six hits and made four errors.

Brandon Wilkerson had three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Aggies. Estarlin Paulino went the distance for A&T and struck out five to get the win.

In the second game, Pete Poole hit two home runs and drove in six runs but it would not be enough as the Tigers would fall short.

Poole hit a three run homer in the first inning for an early lead. A&T got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning and scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to take a 4-3 advantage.

SSU regained the lead as Poole hit a two run home run in the top of the fifth but A&T answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning for a 7-5 lead.

The Aggies extended their lead to 8-5 in the sixth but Savannah State edged closer with a pair of runs in the seventh.

Campbell led off with a single and McCrary doubled to move Campbell to third. Poole's ground-out allowed Campbell to score and McCrary scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Oglesby to take care of the SSU (17-29, 9-11) scoring.

Tommy Freeman took the loss, giving up nine hits and six runs in 4.1 innings.

Andre McCoy had three hits and three RBIs for A&T (15-32, 9-11) while Tyler Boone took home the win on the mound after giving up seven hits, five runs and three walks in five innings.
