SAVANNAH, Ga.- After losing the first game, Savannah State bounced back to defeat Bethune-Cookman 5-4 in the second game of a double-header at Tiger Field. The Tigers lost the opener 9-0.
The second game was tied at four but in the bottom of the seventh, with two outs, SSU scored the winning run as
Joseph McCrary hit a double to score
Joshua Morales who was used as a pinch runner for
Michael McHugh, who led off the inning with a single.
Cookman led 2-0 with runs in the top of the first and the top of the third.
SSU (19-31, 11-12) rallied back to score four runs in the bottom of the third.
After
Peter Poole struck out, McHugh singled followed by a double by
Todd Hagen. Matt Oglesby flied out for gthe second out but McHugh was able to score the Tigers first run. McCrary tripled home Hagen to tie the game at 2-2.
Julius Green walked and McCrary and Green scored on a double by
Darien Campbell.
Nick Johnson hit a two-run single for the Wildcats (29-24, 17-5) to tie the game at 4-4.
McCrary had two hits and two RBIs for SSU while Campbell drove in two runs and McHugh had two hits.
Rexford Davis got the win, pitching 1.2 innings in relief.
Johnson drove in a pair of runs for B-CU while Bryan Rivera was tagged with the loss.
In the first game, the Wildcats had five double plays and broke open a close game with five runs in the ninth.
Green had a double and a single for the Tigers.
Kyle McGowin took the loss but struck out four batters in his seven innings on the mound.
Johnson had two doubles for Cookman. Gabriel Hernandez pitched eight innings and struck out four in the win.
