Savannah State Makes Triple Play In Loss To B-CU

DAYTONA, Fla. Bethune-Cookman complete a weekend sweep of Savannah State with a 10-1 victory at Jackie Robinson Park.

After two scoreless innings Cookman scored three times in the third and added three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 9-0 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, SSU's defense made a triple play.

Cookman's Carlos Delgardo was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by Josh Johnson while Brandon Turner was intentionally walked to load the bases. The next batter, David Lee hit into the triple play which was the defensive highlight for SSU on the afternoon.

The Tigers scored their lone run in the top of the eighth.

Chris Arnold was hit by a pitch and Uriah Virgo was sent in the game for Arnold as a pinch runner. Three batters later, Barry Truitt  singled to center field which allowed Virgo to score.

In the bottom of the inning, Cookman's Anthony Stokes hit a solo home run to make the score 10-1.

Julius Green hit a single and a double for the Tigers (11-21, 5-7). Tommy Freeman was tagged with the loss. Freeman pitched three innings and gave up three runs and four walks.

SSU only had five hits, made four errors and left five runners stranded on base.

Bethune (19-13, 9-3) was led by Johnson who had three hits. Bryan Rivera earned the win, pitching four innings and striking out four while giving up one hit.
