Central Rallies Past SSU 12-8

SAVANNAH, Ga.- North Carolina Central broke a 8-8 tie with one run in the eighth and three in the ninth to defeat Savannah State 12-8 at Tiger Field.

Michael Romano hit a RBI double for the Eagles (14-30, 10-10) in the eighth while in the ninth, Troy Marrow hit a RBI single and Carter Williamson hit a two-run single to expand their lead to 12-8 and seal the win.

The Eagles scored three times in the first inning for an early lead and added two more runs in the top of the third for a 5-0 lead.

Savannah State stormed back to score six times off three hits in the bottom of the inning to go ahead by one.
 
Michael McHugh doubled down the right field line, Darein Campbell walked and Todd Hagen reached on an error which allowed McHugh and Campbell to score. Joseph McCrary singled and Julius Green was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Matt Oglesby hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Hagen. After a walk to Peter Poole, Ian Farris' single drove home McCrary. Uriah Virgo reached on an error which allowed Green and Poole to cross home plate.
 
Central added single runs in the fifth and sixth to go ahead 7-6.  A unearned run in the top of the seventh gave the Eagles a 8-6 lead.
 
SSU tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Oglesby and a RBI single by Farris.
 
NCCU left 12 runners on base while Savannah State stranded seven.
