Tigers Sweep Central In Double-header

SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State baseball team swept a double-header from North Carolina Central at Tiger Field by scores of 10-0 and 13-11.

In the first game, the Tigers scattered 12 hits while scoring three times in the first inning and five runs in the fourth while jumping out to a 8-0 lead.

SSU loaded the bases in the opening inning as Darien Campbell walked, Todd Hagen doubled and Joseph McCrary was hit by a pitch. Julius Green was also hit by a pitch which allowed Campbell to score. Matt Oglesby hot a sacrifice fly that sent Hagen across home plate and Ian Farris reached on an error that allowed McCrary to make it a 3-0 ballgame.

The Tigers pushed across five runs on seven hits in the fourth as Farris, Dychal Bowles, Chris Arnold, Campbell and McCrary scored runs for a 8-0 advantage.

Bowles led off the fifth with a double and scored on a double by Campbell and in the seventh SSU left the bases loaded but scored once when Bowles scored for a 10-0 lead.

Bowles scored three times while Farris hit two doubles for the Tigers. Kyle McGowin went the distance and struck out three to get the win.

NCCU was led by Dylan Drayton's two hits. Michael Romano pitched five innings and gave up 11 hits and nine runs while striking out five.

In the second game, it was a slug-fest with the Eagles getting 14 hits and SSU collecting 12.

Drayton hit a bases clearing triple in the second to help NCCU (13-30, 9-10) to a 5-0 lead. The Tigers struck back with five in the bottom of the inning as Peter Poole and Michael McHugh getting RBI doubles and Uriah Virgo hitting a RBI single to cut Savannah State's deficit to 5-3.

Farris hit a two-run double in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 5-5.

Troy Marrow hit a three-run double in the fifth and Deion Doubledee hit a two-run single to give Central a 10-5 edge. Not to be out-done, SSU also scored five times as McCrary, Green, Poole and Farris all drove in runs to tie the game again at 10 apiece.

The Tigers (17-26, 9-8) pulled away in the sixth.

With the bases loaded Bowles hit a double that allowed everyone to score as SSU went ahead 13-10.

Central scored once in the top of the seventh but could get no closer.

Poole, Farris and Bowles each drove in three runs for SSU. Shawn Gallagher earned the win in relief. Gallagher pitched 1.2 innings and gave up two hits and one run.

Central was led by Drayton and Doubledee who each had three RBI;s. Ruben Rios was the loser, giving up three runs and three walks in two innings in relief.
