Oglesby Lifts SSU Past Rattlers

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Matthew Oglesby's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth with two out lifted Savannah State to a 4-3 victory over Florida A&M at Tiger Field.

In addition to getting the game winning hit, Oglesby was the winner on the mound. Oglesby came on in relief and pitched two innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

He ended the day going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.

Oglesby had a run scoring single in the bottom of the first inning, bringing home Todd Hagen, who earlier singled.

FAMU (7-38, 5-13) went ahead 3-1 after scoring twice in the fifth and once in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers added two runs on three hits.

With two outs, Joseph McCrary, Julius Green and Oglesby hit back to back to back singles. Oglesby's hit scored McCrary while Green was able to score thanks to an error by the second baseman on the same play to tie the score at 3-3.

FAMU left a pair of runners on base in the eighth but was unable to score.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, McCrary and Green drew back to back walks and Oglesby stepped up to the plate and singled to left field for the win.

SSU stranded 11 runners on the day while the Rattlers left six on base.

Hagen, McCrary and Green all had two hits for Savannah State (15-25, 7-8) while McCrary scored twice.

Daniel Lee had two hits for FAMU while Andre Thomas scored twice and Khiry Hernandez drove in two runs. Tony Covington took the loss, giving up two walks, one hit and one run in one-third of a inning.
