s to lead Savannah State to a 6-0 win over Florida A&M at Tiger Field in the first game of a double header.
FAMU won the second game 8-3.
In the opener, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when
Julius Green led off with a bunt and scored on a single by
Chris Arnold.
Barry Truitt was hit by a pitch in the fifth and scored on a triple by
Darien Campbell.
Todd Hagen followed Campbell with a a RBI single to make the score 3-0.
The Tigers pushed across three runs in the sixth on two hits.
Ian Farris was hit by a pitch, Arnold drew a walk and
Justin Brown reached on a error to load the bases.
Peter Poole's sacrifice fly scored Farris and a bunt by Campbell allowed Arnold to score. The bunt allowed Brown to advance to third and an error by the pitcher led to Brown scoring the final run of the game.
McGowin pitched a complete game and only allowed four hits and one walk. Campbell, Hagen and Oglesby and Matt Oglesby all had two hits while Campbell drove in a pair of runs.
FAMU left five runners on base and made three errors.
In the second game, the Rattlers tagged SSU starter
Tommy Freeman for six runs, six hits and five walks.
Khiry Hernandez hit a three run home run for FAMU (7-37, 5-12) in the second inning but Savannah State answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and another in the third to tie the score.
In the second, Oglesby and Poole led off with back to back walks and later scored. In the third,
Joseph McCrary walked and scored on a double by Green to tie the game at three.
Tyler Lawson hit a two run triple for FAMU in the fourth. In the fifth, Daniel Lee led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Andre Thomas for a 6-3 edge.
Ryan Sheplank and Hernandez both had RBI singles in the seventh for a 8-3 advantage for the visitors.
Green and
Michael McHugh each had two hits for SSU. The Tigers (14-25, 6-8) finished the game with just five hits. Freeman, who lasted five innings, struck out four batters in a losing effort.
Hernandez had three hits and four RBIs in the win while Heath Blackburn earned the win, despite walking six batters.
