Tigers Split DH With Alabama A&M

NORMAL, Ala.- Savannah State split a double-header with Alabama A&M, winning the first game 5-2 but losing the nightcap 4-0.

In the opener Kyle McGowin struck out eight while giving up three hits and one run in his eight innings of action on the mound.

Darien Campbell led off the contest with a single and advanced to second on a ground-out by Matt Oglesby. After Joseph McCrary flied out, Campbell advanced to third on a balk by A&M pitcher Josh Freeman. Julius Green was hit by a pitch and stole second and Campbell scored on an error by the second baseman for a 1-0 lead. Todd Hagen smacked a double which allowed Green to cross home plate for a 2-0 advantage.

McCrary hit a triple in the fifth and scored on an error by the first baseman to put the Tigers (12-22) ahead 3-0.

A&M broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth and added another run in the seventh to close their gap to 3-2.

Savannah State left the bases loaded in the eighth and were able to push two runs across the plate for the 5-2 win. Hagen and Peter Poole scored for SSU in the inning. Hagen reahe3d base on a single while Poole drew a walk.

Hagen led SSU with a double and two singles while McCrary contributed a double and a triple. Campbell added a pair of singles.

Josh Freeman took the loss for A&M.

In the second game, Ryan Bowling twilled a three-hitter for the Bulldogs.

A&M (7-29) scored all their runs in the second inning as James Brown hit a RBI single and Brandyn Cruther hit a three-run triple.

Hagen, Green and Ian Ferris all hit singles for SSU. Tommy Freeman was tagged with the loss. Freeman pitched six innings and struck out four.
