Tigers Upend A&T

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State scored five times in the second inning and went on to defeat North Carolina A&T 8-3 at Tiger Field.

Kyle McGowin earned the win for the Tigers (11-15, 5-2). McGowin pitched eight innings and gave up five hits and three runs while striking out two. Eric Ransom and Jackson May came on in relief for the final inning.

Stefa Jordan hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the second that allowed Kelly Freeman to score and give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, SSU sent five runners across home plate on four hits.

Julius Green walked and Matt Oglesby struck out swinging. Ian Farris followed with a double which scored Green to tie the game. Uriah Virgo drew a walk and a single by Chris Arnold scored Farris for a 2-1 SSU lead. Darien Campbell followed with a single that scored Virgo and Todd Hagen added a double that sent Arnold across home plate. Joseph McCrary grounded out but Campbell was able to score for a 5-1 Savannah State advantage. Dychal Bowles struck out to end the inning.

Andre McKoy hit a two-run home run for A&T in the top of the third to cut the Tigers lead to 5-3 but SSU scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Tigers lead to 7-3.

Campbell was hit by a pitch and scored after Hagen reached base on an error made by the third baseman. Green later hit a RBI single that scored Hagen.

Green was hit by a pitch in the seventh and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Farris for a 8-3 lead.

Hagen had a double and a triple for the Tigers while Green and Arnold added two singles each. Farris drove in a pair of runs while Campbell and Green scored twice.

Freeman had two hits for A&T (7-18, 2-5) and McKoy drove in two runs. Tyler Boone took the loss, giving up five hits, seven runs and four walks in 2.1 innings.
