TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-
Joseph McCrary and Rex Davis had a big day at the plate and on the mound respectively as Savannah State defeated Florida A&M 12-6 at Moore-Kittles Field.
McCrary had a single, double and a triple while scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Davis pitched seven innings and struck out six batters while giving up six hits and three runs.
With the game scoreless entering the third, the Tigers struck with five runs off five hits.
Uriah Virgo led off with a walk followed by singles by
Darien Campbell and
Todd Hagen to load the bases. McCrary's hit a single to bring home Virgo and a double by Matt Oglesby plated Campbell and Hagen. After Ian Ferris reached on a walk,
Michael McHugh singled home McCrary and Oglesby for a 5-0 lead.
The Rattlers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning but Savannah State scored three times in the fourth to go ahead 8-3 .
Hagen walked and came home on a triple by McCrary.
Dychal Bowles walked and Oglesby singled to score McCrary and Bowles scored after a single by
Julius Green.
In the seventh, Virgo hit a RBI double and Hagen singled home a run to give SSU a 10-3 advantage while in the eighth
Peter Poole and Green crossed home plate for a 12-3 lead.
Aaron Smith, hit a two run double for FAMU (7-14, 3-2) in the bottom of the eighth and the Rattlers added another run in the bottom of the ninth to round out the scoring.
Oglesby added four hits and three RBIs for the Tigers while Campbell had three hits while Ferris and McHugh collected two hits each. McHugh had three RBIs while Hagen scored twice.
Smith and Justin Abney each drove in a pair of runs for FAMU while Thomas Barwick took the loss. Barwick lasted 2.2 innings and gave up six hits and five runs.
Savannah State (8-12, 2-1) collected 19 hits on the day but left 10 runners on base.
