ATHENS, Ga.- Kevin Ruiz drove in two runs to lead #8 Georgia to a 5-0 win over Savannah State at Foley Filed before a crowd of 1,400.
SSU fell to 3-5 with the loss while the Bulldogs remained unbeaten at 8-0.
UGA scored in the bottom of the first and Ruiz's two-run single in the fourth put them ahead 3-0.
Hunter Cole hit a RBI single in the seventh for UGA and Brett Deloach's single in the eighth drove in a run for the final scores of the contest.
Despite being shut out, the Tigers had seven hits and left seven runners on base.
Savannah State had runners in scoring position in the second thru seventh innings but could never cross home plate.
In the sixth,
Todd Hagen and
Joseph McCrary hit back to back singles. Hagen advanced to third on McCrary's hit but was thrown out at the plate as he tried to make it home.
In the seventh,
Kevin Herlihy bunted his way on base which and advanced to second on a single by
Julius Green. After Ian Ferris struck out swinging, Herlihy advanced to third on a wild pitch and Green made his way to second. However the scoring threat ended when
Antonio Scott struck out and Green was picked off at second.
Hagen and Herlihy each had two hits for SSU.
Tommy Freeman took the loss after pitching six innings. Freeman gave up seven hits, three runs and three walks while striking out two.
David Sosobee earned the win for the Bulldogs, giving up one hit in two innings of work.
