SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State split a double-header with Delaware State at Tiger Field, losing the opener 11-5 but bouncing back to with the second game 3-0.
In the first game, Ryan Haas hit a RBI double to give DSU a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the second when
Todd Hagen scored on a single by
Ian Farris.
Haas hit a two-run double to give the Hornets a 3-1 edge in the third but in the bottom of the inning Hagen hit a sacrifice fly that allowed
Joseph McCrary, who earlier doubled, to score.
DSU added a pair of runs in the sixth to up their lead to 5-2 but the Tigers crossed home plate three times in the bottom of the inning to tie the game as Farris scored a run and Matt Oglesby belted a two-run triple.
The Hornets broke the game open in the seventh with six runs on four hits.
Chris Arnold and Ferris each had a pair of hits for the Tigers and Oglesby drove in two runs.
Kyle McGowin pitched five innings and struck out five but Oglesby was tagged with thye loss, giving up five runs in 1.2 innings.
Hass led DSU with three hits and four RBIs while Cameron Cecil had three hits, three RBIs and two runs. Bobby Brown earned the win, pitching two innings in relief.
In the second game,
Kevin Herlihy struck out four in seven innings to earn his second win of the season.
Oglesby hit a two-run single in the third for SSU (3-3) and Hagen scored on a Farris ground-out in the fourth to round out the scoring.
Haas had two hits for DSU (2-1) but the Hornets also left six runners on base. Matt McClain struck out four and gave up four hits in a losing effort.
