Savannah, Ga – The Savannah State Lady Tigers lost 5-2 to North Carolina A&T in their first home, and first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match at Tiger Tennis Complex, Sunday.
Despite the lost, the Lady Tigers picked up their first doubles match and singles match wins of the season. The team of Esmira Ghesiary and
Chandel McDonie beat the Lady Aggies team of Nianna Henry and Kimberly Stalling, 8-6.
In singles action, Ghesiary beat Azeib Niguta in straight sets, 7-6, and 6-3. In the opening set, Ghesiary beat Niguta 7-5 for the tie-breaker, and set win. Lady Tiger freshman
Nicole Ashiedu picked up her first win of the season, beating Kenya Colbert 10-8 in a tie-breaking third match after losing the first set 4-6 and winning the second 6-3.
North Carolina A&T's Cayla Cross beat Sandra Dis Kristjansdottir in straight sets, 6-1, and 6-4. McDonie fell to Stalling, 6-1, and 6-1.
Ge'Anne Hilton and
Davita Washington also fell in straight sets.
The Lady Aggies sealed up their fifth point in doubles action as the team of Kenya Colbert, and April Burrage beat the Savannah State team of
Shannon Howard and Hilton, 8-2. Kristjansdottir and Ashiedu fell to Cross and Niguta 8-4.
The Lady Tigers are 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Lady Aggies pick up their first win of the season and their first MEAC win.
