SSU Drops Two Games at opener of Stetson Tournament

Deland, Fla.-- Savannah State University's Lady Volleyball team fell to Bethune Cookman University (0-3) and Wofford University (0-3) on day one of the Stetson Tournament on September 9.

The Lady Tigers opened the tournament against the Lady Wildcats of Bethune Cookman and fell 17-25 in match one. Match two, SSU tacked on eight kills to its existing 10 but BCU combated with 18 kills to give them 19-25 win and a 2-0 advantage over the Lady Tigers.

Overall the Lady Tigers recorded 28 kills 46 digs and 24 assists.

Chikia Jones led the team in kills with 10, Libero Bridgette Stephens recorded 14 digs, and Ashlee Butler was the game leading setter with 24 assists.

Both teams finished the game with a total of six blocks.

BCU's Janeen Davis had a game high 21 kills, and Alexis Bliese had a game- high 24 assists.

In the second game, SSU struggled against Wofford losing 7-25 ,19-25, and 10-25.

Wofford offensively dominated the game recording 37 kills and 32 assists over SSU's 14 kills and 14 assists.

Savannah State will play host team Stetson University tomorrow at 9 a.m. before hitting the road to Jacksonville, Florida take on Jacksonville University on Sunday.
