SAVANNAH, Ga.- Matt Nowacki's 10th inning grand slam gave Savannah State a 15-14 win over North Carolina A&T at Tiger Field.
The game was tied at 11 after the end of nine innings but A&T scored three runs in the top of the 10th as Kelvin Freeman hit a two run single and D Little hit a run scoring single for a 14-11 lead.
In the bottom of the inning,
Joseph McCrary led off with a walk which was followed by back to back singles by Don Jackson and Emory Barkley to load the bases. Nowacki stepped to the plate and blasted a hit over the right field fence for the game winner.
SSU improved to 29-23 over all while the Aggies fall to 20-31.
Dezmond Moore pitched two-thirds of a inning to earn the win for the Tigers. Moore gave up one hit and struck out one batter.
Savannah State raced out to a 5-1 lead by scoring once in the first inning and four times in the third.
The score was tied at one after the first inning but SSU scored four runs off two hits in the third as McCrary hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run, Dexter Kelley scored on a wild pitch while Jackson and Nowacki both hit RBI doubles.
Xavier Macklin led off the fourth with a solo home run for A&T but SSU had a answer in the bottom half, scoring four runs off one hit.
Macklin hit a three run homer in the fifth to close the Aggies gap to 9-5 but the Tigers added another run in the bottom of the inning to stretch their lead to 10-5.
A run in the sixth by A&T made it a 10-6 deficit for the Greesboro, NC school.
Both teams scored in the seventh as Luke Tendler hit a RBI triple for the visitors and McCrary hit a RBI single for Savannah State to make the score 11-7.
The Aggies drew closer with four runs in the eighth as Marquis Riley hit a RBI single and Macklin hit a three run homer to tie the game at 11.
Michael Allegretti started for SSU and struck out four in four innings while Kyle McGowin struck out six in 2.2 innings.
Jackson had three hits for SSU while Kelley, Barkley and Nowacki collected two hits each. Nowacki had five RBI's while Kelley scored four times and Jackson and
Cordarian Robertson crossed home plate three times each.
Macklin led the Aggies with seven RBI's, five runs, three hits and two home runs. Ryan Carlton took the loss.
