Tigers Capitalize on FAMU Mistakes

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State swept a doubleheader from Florida A&M at Tiger Field by scores of 6-5 and 3-2.

Antonio Scott scored the winning runs in both games as a pinch runner. In the first game, Scott scored on a wild pitch and in the second game he scored on an error by the first baseman.

In the first game, SSU trailed 5-3 but scored 3 runs in the ninth to get the win.

Matt Nowacki had 2 hits and 2 RBIs while Matt Oglesby drove in 2 runs. Kevin Herlihy pitched all 9 innings for the win and struck out 6.

FAMU led 4-0 before Savannah State scored once in the 3rd and 4th to cut their deficit in half. Both teams scored one run each in the 7th before the Tigers rallied in the 9th.

Tobi Adeyemi and Jarryd Reid each hit home runs for the Rattlers while Steve Dollar gave up 3 runs in two-thirds of a inning to get the loss.

In the second game, both teams scored single runs in the first and 4th innings for a 2-2 tie.

FAMU left 7 runners on base while Savannah State stranded 6.

Peter Poole had 2 singles for the Tigers. Kyle McGowin pitched a complete game and struck out 8 to earn the victory.

Jose Linton took the hill for FAMU and gave up 6 hits while striking out 3. Reid and Scot Sheplak each had 2 hits for the Rattlers.

Savannah State improves to 19-15 while FAMU falls to 10-24.
