Green Leads SSU Against Norfolk State

NORFOLK, Va.- Julius Green had a good day at the plate as Savannah State split a double header with Norfolk State played at Miller Field.

Green drove in all three runs in the Tigers 7-3 loss and collected two hits in a 5-3 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, Blaze Zeilman hit a run scoring triple in the second inning to give NSU a 1-0 lead.

SSU tied the game in the top of the fifth when Green hit a sacrifice fly to score Kevin Herlihy, who led off with a double. The Spartans scored four times in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 5-1.

Chris Joyce hit a two run single in the seven to increase NSU's lead to 7-1.

In the ninth, Peter Poole and Herlihy both drew walks and scored on a double by Green.

Herlihy scored twice for SSU while Kyle McGowin took the loss after giving up five runs in 4.1 innings.

John Rasberry had two hits and scored twice for NSU. Jordan Egan struck out 12 batters in 8.2 innings for the winners.

In the second game, Savannah State (27-21) scored four times in the first inning and once in the second for a 5-0 lead.

Emory Barkley hit a RBI single and Matt Nowacki hit a two run single in the first inning for the Tigers.

Norfolk State scored twice in the third and once in the sixth but could get no closer.

Michael Allegretti struck out six batters in four innings on the mound while Eric Ransom pitched 1.1 innings to earn the save.

NSU (17-24) stranded 11 base runners and was led by Brandon Hairston who drove in two runs. Ryan Davis gave up five runs and was tagged with the loss.
