Tigers Run Winning Streak To Five

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Ahead 6-3, Savannah State scored 13 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to defeat North Carolina Central 19-3 at Tiger Field.

In the fifth, SSU (25-19) scored 13 runs on seven hits and left the bases loaded.

Peter Poole led off with a walk followed by a single by Emory Barkley. Jason Wynn entered the game to run for Barkley. After Matt Nowacki grounded out and Kevin Herlihy struck out swinging, Julius Green singled to bring home Poole and Wynn. Todd Hagen was hit by a pitch, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch. Dexter Kelley hit a single that scored Green.Matt Oglesby, Joseph McCrary and Poole all followed with walks. Poole's walk scored Kelley. Chris Arnold and Nopwacki hit consecutive two run doubles and Antonio Scott singled, Green drew a walk and a walk by Hagen scored a run.Hagen walked in a run. Russel Cooper singled in a run, Cordarian Robertson walked in a run and Don Jackson walked in a run to close out the scoring.

SSU scored four times in the first inning and added single runs in the second and fourth.

The Tigers did not have a hit in the first inning while McCrary hit a RBI double in the second and Oglesby hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth that allowed Green, who was hit by a pitch, to score.

NCCU scored three runs off four hits in the third.

Michael Allegretti struck out four batters in four innings for Savannah State. Scott had two hits for SSU. Nowacki drove in three runs while Arnold and Green had two RBIs apiece. Poole Green and Hagen all scored three runs each while Kelley, Oglesby and McCrary all scored twice.

Troy Marrow had three hits for the Eagles (6-36). Doug Dalley pitched four innings but gave up nine runs and six walks.

NCCU left 10 runners on base.
