Tigers Take Double-header From NCCU

DURHAM, N.C.- Savannah State took a double-header from North Carolina Central at the Durham Athletic Park by scores of 8-3 and 15-3.

The Tigers up their record to 16-13 while Central falls to 1-26.

In the first game, Andrew Garren came on in relief of starter Michael Allegretti to get the win as he gave up two hits and one run in one inning or work.

After a scoreless first inning, SSU scored twice in the second and third innings for a 4-0 lead.

Kevin Herlihy double in a run and later scored in the second while Matt Oglesby and Emory Barkley drove in runs in the third.

Ross Plummer hit a RBI double to get the Eagles on the scoreboard in the fifth but SSU answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 8-1 as Joseph McCrary and Herlihy doubled in runs, Julius Green drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Dychal Bowles singled a later scored on a error.

NCCU added the final two runs of the contest in the top of the seventh.

Herihly hit a pair of doubles and had two RBIs for SSU.

Alex Moore had two hits for NCCU while Glenn Frye took the loss, giving up 6 runs, 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4 in 4.1 innings.

In game two, Dexter Kelley went 6 for 6 and hit a two-run homer in the Tigers victory.

Kelley led off the game with a single and Oglesby walked. McCrary reached on a error which allowed Kelley and Oglesby to score for a 2-0 lead. A single by Barkley allowed McCrary to score for a 3-0 edge. NCCU scored in the bottom of the inning to cut SSU's lead to 3-1.

Oglesby hit a three run double in the second to score Todd Hagen, Chris Arnold and Kelley for a 6-1 lead.

The Eagles added a pair of runs in the third to slice Savannah State's lead in half, 6-3.

It would be the last time NCCU would score as the Tigers would add two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and three each in the eighth and ninth.

In the fourth, Peter Poole singled in a run and Kelley doubled home a run.

In the sixth, Poole walked and later scored when Oglesby flied out to shortstop.

In the eighth, Oglesby tripled in two runs and Green walked in a run and in the ninth, Kelley hit a two run homer and Green's sacrifice fly scored a run.

Oglesby had three hits and five RBIs and scored three times. Kelley scored four times and drove in three runs and Arnold had three hits and scored three times.

Dylan Drayton and Plummer each had three hits for the Eagles.

Herlihy pitched seven innings and struck out three in the win while Drew Robinson was tagged with the loss as he pitched seven innings and gave up 11 hits, 9 runs and three walks.
