Hatters Sweep Savannah State

DELAND, Fla.- Stetson completed a three-game sweep of Savannah State with a 10-5 win at Melching Field.

The 21st ranked Hatters had to overcome a 3-2 deficit with a three-run home run from Mark Jones in the fifth and a two-run shot from Ben Carhart in the sixth.

Joseph McCrary gave Savannah State a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo home run. Stetson (29-7) answered in the bottom of the inning with back to back RBI singles from Jones and Spencer Theisen.

SSU tied the game in the third as McCrary hit a RBI single that scored Cordarian Robertson.

Emory Barkley led off the fourth with a walk and scored on Matt Nowacki's double which allowed the Tigers to take a 3-2 lead.

Jones' three run homer in the fifth put the Hatters ahead for good, 5-3. Carhart's homer put Stetson ahead 7-3 in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, SSU scored twice as Dexter Kelley ripped a RBI double and Matt Oglesby hit a run scoring single to cut their deficit to 7-5.

But the Hatters got those two runs back in the bottom of the inning for a 9-5 lead and Theisen stole home in the eighth to make the score 10-5.

Starter Michael Allegretti went 5.2 innings and gave up 9 hits, 7 runs and 3 walks while striking out 4. Kelley had three hits for the Tigers (20-19), McCrary drove in two runs while Robertson scored twice.

Jones drove in four runs for Stetson. Will Dorsey struck out three in 2.2 innings while Robbie Powell got the save by pitching two scoreless innings.
