SAVANNAH, Ga.- Matthew Nowacki singled home
Julius Green with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Savannah State rallied from a 8-1 deficit to beat Chicago State at Tiger Field.
With the score knotted at eight, Dexter Kelley lined out to lead off the ninth inning. Emory Barkley, who finished the day with three doubles and a pair of RBIs, was hit by a pitch. Green was sent in to pinch run for Barkley. Russel Cooper's ground-out allowed Green to advance to second and Green motored home after Nowacki's single to right field to the game-winning run.
Joseph McCrary also had three hits for the Tigers while
Chris Arnold and Matthew Oglesby added two hits each. Oglesby and Nowacki drove in two runs each and Arnold scored twice.
Andrew Garren earned the win for SSU by pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
CSU roughed up Savannah State starter Kyle McGowin for three runs in the first and one more in the third for a 4-0 lead.
McCrary hit a RBI double for the Tigers in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-1.
Chicago State scored four runs off five hits in the fifth to increase their lead to 8-1.
In the bottom of the inning, Oglesby hit a RBI double for SSU's second run of the contest.
Barkley led off the bottom of the sixth with a double and scored a run when Nowacki hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-3.
SSU exploded for four runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to tie the game.
In the seventh,
Cordarian Robertson led off with a walk and scored on a Ogelsby sacrifce fly. Arnold followed Robertson with a single and scored on a single by Kelley. McCrary singled before Kelley and they bothy came home after a double by Barkley to make the score 8-7.
Arnold hit a RBI double in the eighth to tie the game at eight.
Michael Carpen had three hits for CSU (2-10). Derek Borst took the loss, giving up three hits and two runs in 1.2 innings.
Savannah State improved to 13-10 with the victory.
