SAVANNAH, Ga.- Peter Poole hits two doubles and drove in three runs as Savannah State downed South Carolina-Beaufort 13-7 at Tiger Field.
The win gives SSU a 10-8 record and extends their winning streak to four games.
Savannah State won the game despite being out-hit 13 to 10.
The Tigers scored four in the first inning and four more in the second for a 8-0 lead.
In the first inning, Matt Oglesby,
Joseph McCrary and Dexter Kelley all walked to load the bases. Russel Cooper also walked which allowed Oglesby to score the game's first run.
Chris Arnold reached on a fielder's choice which sent McCrary home and Poole smacked a double to right center that scored Kelley and Arnold.
Cordarian Robertson walked to lead off the second and
Julius Green followed with a single. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch and Robertson scored when Oglesby got out at first. Kelley tripled down the right field line that scored Green and Cooper hit a single that allowed Kelley to cross home plate. Cooper later scored on a balk.
The Sand Sharks prevented a shutout by scoring a run in the fourth and added two more in the top of the fifth after Ty Main hit a two run double to make the score 8-3.
Poole doubled in the bottom of the fifth and scored a unearned run to give SSU a 9-3 edge.
USC-Beaufort plated another runner in the sixth to close their gap to 9-4 but Savannah State added one in the seventh and three more in the eighth to pull away 13-4.
Arnold led off the seventh with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Poole. In the eighth,
Dychal Bowles hit a solo home run in the eighth. McCrary singled a Cooper walked and both scored unearned runs for the final SSU runs of the game.
Paul Cilwick blasted a three run home run for the Sand Sharks (16-9) in the ninth for the final runs of the game.
McCrary had three hits and scored twice for the Tigers while Cooper drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Arnold also scored twice.
Tommy Freeman picked up the win, striking out three in six innings of work.
Cilwick drove in three runs, scored twice and had two hits for USC-Beaufort. Stephen Richards took the loss after giving up four walks, four hits and four runs in two-thirds of a inning.
SSU made four errors while the Sand Sharks made three.
