SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Joseph McCrary III hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the ninth to give Savannah State a 6-5 win over Norfolk State at Tiger Field. McCrary had the game winning hit with two outs.
The win improves SSU to 4-5 while the Spartans, who left eight runners on base, fall to 3-4.
John Jynch led off the game with a single and scored on a single by John Rasberry to give Norfolk State a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Savannah State tied the score in the bottom of the second. Matt Nowacki reached on a fielder's choice and tied the game when Peter Poole doubled to left field.
NSU added three runs in the third to go ahead 4-1 as Rasberry, Blaze Zeilman and Brandon Hairston all drove in runs.
The Tigers cut their deficit in half in the fourth and scored twice in the fifth to tie the game at four.
Kevin Herlihy hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth that allowed Emory Barkley, who walked, to score and in the fifth, Dexter Kelley hit a two-run single that scored Matt Oglesby and McCrary. Oglesby reached on a error and McCrary bunted his way on base.
Chris Warren led off the top of the eighth with a double and later scored to give NSU a 5-4 edge.
Savannah State stranded a pair of base-runners in the bottom of the inning but were able to score the tying and winning runs in their last at bat.
McCrary and Kelley each drove in two runs for the Tigers. Courtrevez McTier was the winning pitcher. McTier pitched one inning and gave up one run. Kyle McCowin started the game and struck out three batters in seven innings.
Ryan Davis took the loss for the Spartans.At the plate, Rasberry had four hits and two RBIs.
