Savannah State and Norfolk State Split A Doubleheader

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State and Norfolk State split a doubleheader at Tiger Field with SSU winning the first game 8-5 and the Spartans taking the second 11-6.

The Tigers are now 3-5 while NSU is 3-3.

In the first game, Michael Allegretti pitched 4.1 scoreless before the Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth.

SSU answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 4-1 as Joseph McCrary III, Dexter Kelley, Matt Nowacki and Peter Poole all crossed home plate.

John Rasberry hit a two-run homerun for Norfolk State in the seventh to make the score 4-3 but the Tigers added a run in the bottom of the inning as Matt Oglesby led off with a solo homerun.

Julius Green hit a two-run double in the eighth and later scored after Oglesby singled to center field to run SSU's lead to 8-3.

NSU scored twice in the ninth but it would not be enough.

Green, Oglesby and Poole all had three hits for SSU. Green drove in four runs while Oglesby had three RBIs. Allegretti pitched six innings and struck out four to earn the win.

Ryan Shook struck out nine for NSU and took the loss and John Lynch scored three runs.

The Tigers were down 11-1 before a late rally fell short in game two.

Green led off SSU's first at bat with a single and later scored for a 1-0 lead.

Rasberry hit a two-run homer as NSU scored five times in the second for a 5-1 lead.

The Spartans added three runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-1 and Lynch blasted a three-run homer in the seventh for a 11-1 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, SSU's bats came alive as they scored five times off two hits and a trio of Norfolk State errors. Two of the runs came from Dychal Bowles home run.

Kevin Herilhy was roughed up for SSU on the mound, giving up eight runs in 3.2 innings. He also struck out four.

Green had two hits and scored twice while Bowles drove in two runs.

Jordan Egan struck out eight to get the win for the Spartans. Lynch drove in four runs while Rasbery had three RBIs.

NSU stranded nine runner while Savannah State left eight on base. SSU made six errors and the Spartans made five.
