SAVANNAH, Ga.- Jovonni Shuler left Tiger Arena in style as he scored a career-high 36 points in a 103-64 win over Carver Bible College.
The fifth-year senior made 15 of 24 shots from the field and hit 4 of 11 attempts from 3-point land.
It was the second time this season Savannah State broke the century mark, the most since the 1997-98 season when the Tigers scored at least 100 points five times under Jimmy Westley.
SSU scored the first 14 points of the game and held the Cougars without a field goal until Nicholas Hood's jumper with 16:08 on the clock.
A layup by Preston Blackmon expanded SSU's lead to 24-3 with 12:58 remaining but Carver found some life as they went on a 11-3 run to close their deficit to 13.
The Tigers responded the Carver's spurt with a 20-7 run to get their biggest lead of the half at 47-21 with 3:07 left.
Savannah State led 52-26 at the half.
Blackmon opened the second half with a jumper to give the Tigers a 28-point lead but Carver chipped SSU's advantage to 56-36 with 17:08 remaining.
A dunk by Shuler with 12:51 left gave SSU a 31-point lead and a dunk by Jyles Smith with 4:21 remaining put the Tigers ahead by 40.
Leading 98-56, a pair of free throws by Angelo Davis gave SSU 100 points as well as their largest lead of the night of 44 points.
Blackmon added 23 points and five assists while Smith had 12 rebounds, 6 points and three blocks.
All 11 SSU players scored at least two points.
The Tigers (10-18) shot 58.8 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Carver 45 to 22. The SSU reserves out-scored the Carver bench players 24-8.
Bernard Parks and James Barbee scored 14 each for Carver (0-22) while Hood and Sean Stringfellow had 11 points apiece.
