Tigers Split Doubleheader With St. Peter's

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Michael Allegretti struck out seven batters and Savannah State scored six times in the 4th inning as the Tigers defeated St. Peter's the first game of a doubleheader 7-4 at Tiger Field.

The Peacocks won the second game 3-1 to take the season-opening series.

The first game was scoreless until the 4th when St. Peter's scored twice in the top of the inning.

SSU rallied back with six runs off 5 hits in the bottom of the inning.

Matt Nowacki led off with a walk and Kevin Herlihy followed with a single. After Peter Poole flied out, Emory Barkley singled, Julius Green doubled home Nowacki and Herlihy and Cordarian Robertson singled home Barkley. Joe McCrary walked, Matt Oglesby struck out swinging for the second out and Dexter Kelley smacked a three-run double that brought home Green, Robertson and McCrary for a 6-2 advantage.

The Peacocks scored twice in the fifth to make it 6-4 but SSU added a run in the 6th as Oglesby hit a RBI single that scored Green who led off with a walk.

Oglesby, Barkley and Robertson all had two hits for the Tigers while Kelley drove in three runs. Green had two RBI and scored twice. Allegretti pitched 6 innings and gave up 5 hits while Eric Ransom earned the save.

Preston Aldridge had two hits for St. Peter's and Zach Hopf took the loss on the mound after hurling 3.1 innings and surrendering 5 runs.

In the second game, Nowacki hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 5th for the Tigers only run.

St. Peter's scored once in the 3rd and 4th for a 2-0 lead.

After Nowacki's blast over the right field wall, the Peacocks added another run in the top of the 6th for the final run of the game.

Green hit a double and a single for SSU (1-3). Tommy Freeman took the loss. Freeman struck out four in 5 innings but gave up 6 hits and 3 runs.

Myron Enos had two hits for St. Peter's while Joe Jimenez took home the win and Russell Stupienski earned the save. Both had three strikeouts each.
