Savannah, Ga.—Savannah State University's volleyball team fell 0-3 to Stetson University on October 25 in Willcox Wiley Gym at its annual Dig Pink game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
The Lady Tigers fell in three straight sets, 15-25, 12-25, and then 15-25.
SSU's veteran player,
Chikia Jones led the Lady Tigers offensively, recording a total of four kills out of the teams overall 13.
Bridgette Stephens earned a team high of 8 digs, while
Bryana Gadis dominated the game in service aces (5).
The Lady Hatters had a total of 43 kills and 40 digs. Kaylee Ream led the game individually with 15 kills, and teammate Monique Russell led in digs with 15.
In honor of breast cancer, SSU and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Coastal Georgia affiliate had an informational booth in the lobby where patrons could collect materials and talk with breast cancer survivors about early detection, and treatment. The Lady Tigers also honored Ms. Almisha Mattox; a four year breast cancer survivor and 1970 graduate of Savannah State College with a pink volleyball, and athletic jacket. Mrs. Mattox conducted the coin toss for the event and supporters received a pink volleyball with Dig Pink for Breast Cancer printed on it.
SSU will have its next two scheduled games on the road for conference play at Bethune-Cookman University on October 28, and then Florida A&M University on October 30.
