Virginia Tech defeats SSU

BLACKSBURG, Va.- Savannah State fell to 24-23 after suffering a 7-0 setback to #16 Virginia Tech at English Field.

A trio of SSU pitchers combined to limit the Hokies to seven hits but the Tigers had very little offense as they were held to five hits.

Darien Campbell, Blake Lee, Dexter Kelley, Kevin Herlihy and Julius Green all collected singles for the Tigers.

The Hokies (34-15) scored once in the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead.

Tech broke open the close game with five runs off three hits in the eighth.

Ronnie Shaban had two hits and three RBIs for the Hokies while Matthew Price struck out 10 batters in seven innings of work.

Mark Sherrod took the loss for SSU. Sherrod pitched seven innings and gave up 10 walks, five hits and four runs while striking out four.
