SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State ended their 2010 baseball campaign with a double-header loss to North Carolina A&T at Tiger Field.
The Aggies won the opener 11-3 and completed the sweep with a 8-5 victory in the nightcap.
The losses give the Tigers a 24-26 record while A&T improved to 28-24.
In the first game, A&T pounded out 16 hits while SSU made three errors.
The Aggies scored three in the first inning followed by one in the third and three more runs in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.
In the fifth, John Arnold doubled and came home on a single by
Cordarian Robertson.
Joseph McCrary led off the sixth with a double and scored on a single by
Jonathan Ross to make the score 7-2.
A&T scored twice in the eighth but
Brandon Webster's ground-out in the bottom of the inning allowed McCrary, who led off with a single, to score to cut SSU's deficit to 9-3.
The Aggies added a pair of runs in the ninth for the difference.
Ross had three hits for the Tigers while McCrary had two hits and scored twice.
Joseph Jackson took the loss. Jackson pitched 3.1 innings and gave up seven hits and six runs.
Marquis Riley and Xavier Macklin each hit home runs for the Aggies. Nick Rogers struck out six in six innings to earn the win.
In game two, SSU led 1-0 in the third when Arnold tripled and came home on a ground-out by Robertson.
A&T tied the game in the top of the fourth but the Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning when Ross singled and scored on a double by Matt Nowacki and Nowacki scored on a fielder's choice by Don Jackson.
The Aggies took a 6-3 lead in the fifth with five runs and increased their advantage to 8-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
SSU left two runners on base in the seventh but could only score twice as John Arnold singled and scored on an error and
Blake Lee reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by
Dexter Kelley.
Arnold scored twice for SSU.
Mark Sherrod pitched 4.1 innings and gave up seven hits and six runs to take the loss.
Macklin had a double, triple and a home run for the Aggies and drove in five runs. Nick Oelker earned the win, giving up five runs in 6.2 innings.
