Tigers Take Series From NCCU

SAVANNAH, Ga.- North Carolina Central left 10 runners on base but were only able to score twice as the Eagles fell to Savannah State 10-2 at Tiger Field.

The win puts SSU (14-13) over the .500 mark for the first time this season while North Carolina Central remains winless (0-26).

Savannah State scored three times in the first inning and twice in the second for a 5-0 lead.

In the first, Julius Green and Jonathan Ross both scored on a wild pitch while Kevin Herlihy walked and scored on a single by Joseph McCrary.

Don Jackson and John Arnold had back to back singles in the second and both scored on a sacrifice bunt by Blake Lee.

NCCU scored once in the fourth but the Tigers plated two runs in the seventh when Herlihy hit a two-run double for a 7-1 lead.

The Eagles left the bases loaded in the top half of the eighth but were able to score one run. In the bottom of the inning, Savannah State's Green blasted a two-run double and Lee hit a single to bring home Green for the final runs of the contest.

Lee had three RBI's for SSU while Green and Herlihy drove in two runs apiece. Green, Ross and Arnold each scored twice. Ross and Jackson each had two hits.

Eric Ransom won the game for SSU. Ranson scattered four hits over four innings and gave up one earned run.

Justin Goodson and Nate Smith had two hits each for NCCU. Doug Dalley took the loss. Dalley pitched 5.2 innings and gave up four hits, five runs and three walks. he also struck out five batters.
