Aggies Defeat SSU

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Nick Rogers, Xavier Macklin and Marquis Riley each drove in three runs to lead North Carolina A&T to a 13-6 win over Savannah State at Memorial Field.

The Aggies pounded out 14 hits but committed four errors in the victory.

Riley hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first to help A&T to a 4-0 lead.

Dexter Kelley led off the second with a double and came home on a single by Matt Nowacki to help SSU cut their deficit to 2-1.

The Tigers tied the game in the top of the third when John Arnold scored on an error by the catcher but A&T scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 4-2.

Emory Barkley's sacrifice fly scored a run for Savannah State in the sixth but the Aggies answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning as Rogers belted a two run homer to expand their lead to 9-2.

Julius Green and Blake Lee had back-to-back singles in the seventh for SSU and Green scored when Jonathan Ross reached on a fielder's choice to make the score 9-3.

Kelvin Herlihy singled and scored when Don Jackson's double to put the Tigers within 9-4 but that would be as close as they would get as Rogers hit a RBI double and Macklin drove in a run with his single to close out the scoring on the afternoon.

Green had three hits for SSU while Ross, Kelley and Herlihy had two hits each. Kelley also drove in two runs. Mark Sherrod pitched 5.2 innings and surrendered 11 runs and five walks.

Brent Moore earned the win for A&T, giving up four runs in 6.1 innings.
