GREENSBORO, N.C.- Savannah State dropped a double-header with North Carolina A&T at Memorial Field, losing 18-3 and 18-6.
The losses give the Tigers a 22-19 mark.
In the opener, A&T broke open a scoreless game with eight runs in the third inning.
The Aggies scored single runs in the fourth and fifth inning and two more in the sixth for a 12-0 lead.
Savannah State answered with two runs in the seventh inning as
Jonathan Ross doubled and came home on a groundout by Matt Nowacki and
Dexter Kelley singled and scored after
Dychal Bowles reached base on an error by the shortstop.
In the eighth,
Blake Lee hit a RBI double that scored
Cordarian Robertson, who pinchran for Emory Barkley, who doubled, to make the score 12-3.
A&T scored six times in the bottom of the inning to put SSU away.
Lee had two of the five hits for the Tigers.
Michael Allegretti took the loss. Allegretti lasted 2.2 innings and gave up eight hits, eight runs and three walks.
George Hines hot a pair of home runs for A&T while Esterlin Paulino pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters.
In the second game, Hines and Kelvin Freeman each hit three run homers.
Ross hit a RBI single in the first to give SSU a 1-0 lead. The Aggies answered with two in the bottom of the first but Savannah State's Barkley ripped a two-run double in the second to give the Tigers a 3-2 edge.
SSU piled on four more runs in the top of the third for a 7-2 lead as Nowacki hit a two run double,
Joseph McCrary hit a sacrifice fly and
Kevin Herlihy's ground-out scored a run.
A&T had six runners to cross the plate in the bottom of the third to go ahead 8-7.
The Aggies plated three runners in the fourth, one in the fifith and four more in the sixth to break open the game and take a 16-7 advantage.
Savannah State added one last run in the top of the seventh when Ross tripled to center field and came home on a ground-out by Kelley.
Ross had two hits and scored twice for the Tigers. Nowacki and Barkley each drove in a pair of runs.
Eric Ransom took the loss, pitching 2.1 inning and giving up eight runs.
Nick Rogers earned the win for the Aggies, striking out five batters in six innings.
