JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-
Jonathan Ross hit a two-run home run in the first game and
Mark Sherrod struck out eight batters in the nightcap as Savannah State improved to 22-17 in a double-header sweep of Edward Waters at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
The Tigers, who have now won six consecutive games, won 4-3 and 8-4.
In the first game,
Julius Green reached on an error and
Kevin Herlihy doubled to start the second inning. Green later scored on a sacrifice fly hit by
Brandon Webster.
Darien Campbell singled to center which allowed Herlihy to score for a 2-0 lead.
Blake Lee led off the third with a single and came home on a home run by Ross for a 4-0 advantage.
EWC scored twice in the bottom of the inning and added another run in the bottom of the seventh but could get no closer.
Edward Waters left eight runners on base while SSU stranded six.
Campbell, Ross, Herlihy and Emory Barkley all had two hits for SSU.
Joseph Jackson earned the win. Jackson pitched all seven inning and struck out four.
In the second game, SSU broke a tie game with one run in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Dexter Kelley hit a RBI single and
Joseph McCrary's sacrifice fly scored a run to give SSU a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Edward Waters tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Campbell and Lee hit RBI singles for Savannah State in the fourth but EWC (22-23) answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Kelley walked in the fifth and scored on a double by Green for a 5-4 advantage.
McCrary and Don Jackson hit RBI singles in the seventh and Herlihy added a RBI double to increase the Tigers lead to 8-4.
Campbell had four hits and McCrary added three for SSU.
