Kelley Leads SSU Over Hornets

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Dexter Kelley hit two home runs to lead Savannah State to a 18-5 win over Alabama State at Paterson Field.

Kelley hit a two run homer in the fourth and a three-run blast in the sixth.

Kelley, Matt Nowacki and Joseph McCrary all hit RBI singles in the first inning to help SSU to a 3-0 lead.

The Hornets scored once in the bottom of the inning as Jourdan Mott hit a RBI single.

Savannah State (20-17) exploded for five runs in the third and two more in the fourth to go ahead 10-1.

In the third, Nowacki had a RBI single and scored on a passed ball, Julius Green hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run and Kevin Herlihy hit a two-run double. Kelley's two run blast in the fourth gave SSU a nine-run lead.

SSU scored four runs off four hits in the sixth but Alabama State plated three runners in the bottom of the inning and one more in the seventh to make the score 14-5.

Green hit a two-run homer in the eighth for the Tigers while Cordarian Robertson hit a RBI single and Lee hit a RBI double for the final runs of the contest.

Kelley finished 4-for-5 with six RBIs. Lee had four hits while Green drove in three runs. Lee, Ross, Kelley and Nowacki scored three times each. Michael Allegretti pitched five innings and struck out five to get the victory.

Mott had five RBIs for the Hornets (10-13) while Drew Quinney gave up 10 runs and 10 hits in five innings got the loss.
