ATLANTA, Ga.-
Joseph Jackson threw a no-hitter as Savannah State swept a double-header from Morehouse at Perkerson Park. SSU beat Morehouse by a combined score of 36-2.
Savannah State won the opener 20-0 and completed the sweep with a 16-2 victory.
In the first game,
Blake Lee and
Joseph McCrary drove in five runs each while Jackson pitched a complete game and struck out four batters.
Darien Campbell reached on an error and scored on a single by
Jonathan Ross while
Dexter Kelley doubled and later scored when
Kevin Herlihy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
SSU added two runs in the third for a 4-0 advantage. Kelley had a RBI single and McCrary had a RBI double in the to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Lee hit a two-run double in the fifth as SSU scored five times to increase their lead to 11-0.
The Tigers scored nine runs in the seventh as McCrary hit a two run home run and a two-run triple while Lee hit a three run homer.
Ross had four hits and Don Jackson added three hits for Savannah State.
Kellen Nelson took the loss for the Maroon Tigers, giving up 23 hits and three walks while striking out six.
In the second game, SSU received home runs from Lee, Matt Nowacki and
Kendrick Jones while Herlihy added a triple.
Nowacki hit a two-run double to help SSU get a 3-0 in the first inning but Morehouse scored in the bottom of the inning to cut Savannah State's lead to 2-1.
SSU scored once in the second and added four more in the third as Nowacki hit a two run homer for a 8-1 lead. Kelley singled in the fourth and stole home for a 9-1 lead.
Nowacki hit a RBI single in the sixth and McCrary smacked a two-run double to give the Tigers a 12-1 cushion.
Morehouse scored their second run in the bottom of the sixth but SSU answered in the top of the seventh with a three-run home run from Lee and a solo blast from Jones as the Tigers' lead grew to 16-2.
Despite the 14-run victory, Savannah State (18-17) used five pitchers.
Andrew Garren threw 1.2 innings and gave up three hits, three walks and one run and earned the win. Nowacki drove in five runs followed by Lee who drove in four and McCrary who had three RBI's.
Michael Young had two of the five Morehouse hits. Jarrell James took the loss, giving up 17 hits and three walks while striking out four.
