SAVANNAH, Ga.- Alex Wyche hit a base-clearing double in the eighth inning to lead Armstrong Atlantic to a 7-4 win over Savannah State at Grayson Stadium.
The game was tied at four in the eighth when AASU loaded the bases as Josh Wilson and Michael Price singled and Carlos Cardza-Oquendo walked. Wyche doubled home Wilson and Price and Cardza-Oquendo scored on an error.
AASU pitcher Brandon McCrerry struck out the side in the ninth inning to give the Pirates the win.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Savannah State answered with a pair of runs in the second as
Darien Campbell hit a two-run single to score
Kevin Herlihy (hit by a pitch) and
Julius Green (double).
Armstrong Atlantic re-took the lead with two runs in the third.
SSU scored once in the fifth and sixth for a 4-3 lead.
Campbell doubled in the fifth and scored on John Arnold's singled while
Jonathan Ross reached on a fielder's choice in the sixth and came home on a double by
Dexter Kelley.
The Pirates scored once in the seventh to tie the score at four.
Kelley, Campbell and
Joseph McCrary all had two hits for SSU (16-17). Campbell drove in two runs.
Michael Allegretti took the loss. Allegretti pitched 7.2 innings and gave up 12 hits, seven runs, three walks and struck out four.
Wyche went 3-for-5 for AASU (22-17) while McCrerry earned the win. McCrerry pitched two innings and gave up two hits and struck out three.
