Savannah State Falls To Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Savannah State stranded 10 base runners but were only able to score one run as the Tigers lost to Campbell 16-1 at Taylor Field.

Trailing 11-0, SSU scored their lone run in the top of the fifth. Dychal Bowles reached on an error by the third baseman and advanced to second. Don Jackson flied out and Darien Campbell grounded out but it allowed Bowels to advance to third. Julius Green stepped to the plate and singled to right filed which drove home Bowles. Jonathan Ross struck out to end the inning.

Savannah State left two base runners stranded in the first and ninth innings and left the bases loaded in the eighth.

The Camels (5-3) scored once in the first and second innings and six times in the third for a 8-0 lead. Three runs crossed the plate in the fourth for an 11-0 advantage.

The Tigers broke up the shutout in the fifth but Campbell added three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to push their lead to 16-1.

Green had a trio of singles for SSU (1-8) while Ross hit a double and a single. Joseph Jackson took the loss for the Tigers. Jackson pitched 2.2 innings and gave up eight hits, seven runs and three walks.

Ellis Lowe had four hits and three RBI for Campbell and Frank Zier earned the win while giving up five hits and one run over five innings.
