DOVER, Del.- Savannah State swept a double-header from Delaware State 8-2 and 11-5 at Soldier Field.
Blake Lee had three hits for SSU in the opener while
Joseph McCrary had four hits in the nightcap.
The wins improve Savannah State to 9-12 while The Hornets fall to 3-16.
SSU led 2-1 after five innings of play in the first game but exploded for five runs in the seventh inning.
Delaware State made four errors during the game. SSU left 11 runners on base while the Hornets stranded six runners.
Jon Ross had two hits and scored twice for SSU while Matt Nowacki drove in two runs.
Michael Allegretti pitched nine innings and struck out four batters.
J. Babuca had a double for the Hornets while Z. Adkins took the loss after pitching 6.2 innings and surrendering seven hits and six runs.
In game two, DSU led 1-0 but the Tigers answered with five runs in the fourth off four hits.
The Hornets rallied to tie the game in the seventh but SSU answered with six runs in the ninth and Nowacki and McCrary both hit two run doubles.
Nowacki ended the game with two doubles, two RBIs and scored twice. Ross added two hits and
Kevin Herlihy had two hits and two RBIs.
Herlihy earned the win after throwing three innings in relief of starter
Mark Sherrod.
S. Davis had a double for DSU and J. Portela took the loss, giving up six runs and six hits in two innings.
