Bucs Down Savannah State 12-6

SAVANNAH, Ga.- N. Chinners, T. Thornburg and P. Dolan all hit home runs to lead Charleston Southern to a 12-6 victory over Savannah State at Tiger Field.

Chinners had a RBI single for CSU in the top of the first but the Tigers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning as Dexter Kelley had a RBI single and Matt Nowacki hit a single that plated two runs.

The Bucs scored once in the fourth and three times in the top of the fifth to go ahead 5-3.

SSU scored once in the bottom of the fifth when Joseph McCrary, who earlier singled, scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-4.

Charleston Southern added one run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to increase their advantage to 8-4.

T. Burkett hit a three-run double as the Bucs added four runs in the top of the eighth for a 12-4 lead.

Jon Ross tripled for SSU in the bottom of the inning and came home on a ground out by Kelley.

John Arnold singled for SSU (6-12) in the ninth and later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 12-6.

Ross had two hits for SSU and scored twice while Kelley and Nowacki each drove in two runs. Starter Eric Ransom was tagged with the loss. Ransom pitched 4.2 innings and gave up seven hits and four runs while striking out three.

Chinners had three hits, three RBIs and scored twice for Charleston Southern (9-12). S. Brase earned the win as he struck out six batters in six innings while giving up five hits and four runs.
