Hornets Rally Past Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Delaware State scored six runs in the seventh inning to rally to a 12-10 win over Savannah State in the Savannah State Classic played at Tiger Field.

SSU scored twice in the first inning as B. Lee tripled home Darien Campbell and D. Bowles hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jonathan Ross, who walked.

The Hornets scored six times in the third for a 6-2 lead.

Emory Barkley singled in the fourth and came home on a single by Lee to cut DSU's lead to 6-3.

Barkley led off the sixth with a solo home run and Dexter Kelley hit a two run double to tie the game at six.

The Tigers added four runs off three hits in the top of the seventh to move ahead 10-6.

Kevin Herlihy reached base on an error and advanced to third. Herlihy came home on a single by Barkley. Joe McCrary singled and Ross was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kelley hit a bases clearing single to drive home Barkley, McCrary and Ross.

Delaware State added six runs off four hits and a pair of errors to to ahead 12-10,

In the eighth, Matt Nowacki singled, Herlihy reached on a fielder's choice and Barkley singled but SSU could not score any runs.

Lee and Barkley had four hits each and Kelley drove in five runs.

T. Gatto had four RBIs for Delaware State (3-3).

M Reffitt took the loss for SSU J. Elliott earned the win for the Hornets.
