ORLANDO, Fla.- Chris Duffy went 4-for-5 with seven RBI, two runs, two homers and 12 total bases to lead Central Florida to a 14-4 win over Savannah State.
The 1,111 fans at Jay Bergman Field saw Savannah State fall to 0-2 while the Knights improved to 2-0.
Darien Campbell led off the game with a single for SSU and came home after a single by Dexter Kelley for a 1-0 lead.
UCF answered the Tigers with four runs in the bottom of the inning and four more runs in the bottom of the second for a 8-1 advantage. Duffy belted a two run homer in the first inning and a hit a three run shot in the second.
Duffy hit a RBI double in the fourth to give the Knights a 9-1 lead but Savannah State scored a run in the fifth as Emory Barkley doubled and came home on a single by James Lee.
Central Florida added a run in he sixth to make the score 10-2.
In the seventh, Dexter Kelley reached on a fielder's choice and was able to drive home Cordarian Robertson who was pinch running for Barkley who led off with a walk. Kelley later came home on a single by Matt Nowacki to cut SSU's deficit to 10-4.
UCF added the final two runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eighth to widen their lead to 10 runs.
Campbell led SSU with three hits while Lee and Nowacki had two hits each. Kelley drove in a pair of runs. Kevin Herlihy started for the Tigers and pitched two innings. Herlihy gave up nine hits and eight runs.
Johnny Sedock hurled five innings for the Knights, giving up eight hits and two runs while striking out four.
