SSU Falls to Central Florida in Baseball Season Opener

ORLANDO, Fla.- Savannah State opened their 2010 baseball season with a 7-2 loss to Central Florida.

A crowd of 1,430 made their way to Jay Bergman Field to watch three Knight pitchers hold Savannah State (0-1) to seven hits, all singles.

S. Brown put UCF on the board in the first ining with a solo home run.

The Knights (1-0) added three runs in the third and fourth innings for a 7-0 edge.

SSU, who stranded nine base runners in the game, scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth.

In the eighth, Darien Campbell reached on an error and advanced to second when James Lee drew a walk. After Jon Ross flied out, Dexter Kelley reached base on an error which allowed Campbell to score.

In the top of the ninth, Cordarian Robinson entered the game as a pinch runner for Brandon Webster, who was hit by a pitch. Robertson later scored when Campbell reached base because of a fielder's choice.

Matt Nowacki had a pair of singles for SSU and Campbell had one hit, one RBI and scored a run.

Michael Allegretti took the loss. Allegretti pitched four innings and gave up seven runs, seven walks and six hits while striking out three.

D. Luciano drove in three runs and had two doubles and scored twice for Central Florida. O. Dew picked up the win, pitching five innings and striking out six.
