Tigers Fall To Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga.- Drew Little threw four touchdown passes to lead Georgia State to a 55-21 win over Savannah State in a game played in the Georgia Dome before a crowd of 14,908.

The win improves the Panthers to 4-2 while SSU falls to 0-6.

Parris Lee scored on a four-yard run and Iain Vance added the extra point to give GSU a 7-0 lead with 8:25 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers went ahead 14-0 with 6:58 left in the opening quarter when Little threw a nine-yard scoring pass to Sam Burkhalter.

Savannah State got on the scorehoard early in the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Sheldon Barnes. Derek Williams added the extra point and SSU trailed 14-7 with 13:39 on the clock.

GSU answered the Tigers with 20 points in the second quarter as Vance kicked field goals of 46 and 27 yards and Little threw touchdown passes of 7 and 29 yards.

The Panthers led 34-7 at the half.

GSU went ahead 41-7 with 11:06 left in the third after Little threw a 28 yard touchdown pass to Albert Wilson.

Savannah State closed the gap to 41-14 with 25 seconds left in the quarter as Antonio Bostic threw a 38 yard touchdown pass to Brian Lackey.

Burkhalter scored on a one-yard run with 9:21 left in the game but Barnes scored his second touchdown of the contest, another one-yard run, with 3:10 remaning to make the score 48-21.

GSU added a final touchdown with 44 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.

Bostic passed for 95 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers while Barnes added 78 yards and two scores. Simon Heyward caught six passes for 31 yards.Vince Cochran had eight tackles for the defense.

As a team SSU had 263 yards of offense but also had 10 penalties for 93 yards.

GSU had 433 yards of offense and were led by Little's four touchdown passes and 166 passing yards. Hill added 95 yards on the ground and Wilson caught four passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
