LYNCHBURG, Va.- Mike Brown accounted for four touchdowns to lead 25th ranked Liberty to a 52-14 win over Savannah State in Williams Stadium before 19, 314 fans.
Brown passed for 231 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score.
Brown scored on a 18 yard run with 13:43 left in the first quarter. Matt Bevins added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
The Flames (3-2) went ahead 14-0 when Brown threw a 9 yard touchdown pass to Chris Summers with 8:08 left in the opening quarter.
Savannah State got on the board with 5:10 left in the quarter after
Rashaud Ferrell blocked a punt and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown.
Derek Williams added the extra point and SSU trailed 14-7.
Liberty increased to 21-7 when Summers caught a 30 yard scoring pass from Brown with 4:27 remaining in the quarter.
The Flames added a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter as Brown tossed a 4 yard pass to Matt Wrede and SirChauncey Holloway scored on a 2 yard run to take a 35-7 lead into the half.
Bevins kicked a 27 yard field goal with 7:31 left in the third to expand their lead to 38-7 but the Tigers answered when Antonio Bostic threw a 32 yard touchdown pass to Brian Lackey with 6:16 on the clock to make it 38-14.
Summers caught a 17 yard touchdown pass from Tyler Brennan with 8:51 left in the game and Chase Barnett scored on a 24 yard run with 4:58 left to round out the scoring in the contest.
SSU's offensive statistical leaders all posted career-highs in the loss. Bostic passed for 187 yards and a touchdown,
Sheldon Barnes rushed for 76 yards and Lackey had five receptions for 104 yards.
Darren Hunter led the defense with 11 tackles.
Holloway ran for 140 yards and a touchdown for Liberty and Summers caught 8 passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
As a team SSU (0-5) had a season-high 302 yards of offense while Liberty had 564. The Tigers had the ball for 32:14 while LU had possession for 27:46.
