Hardy Pushes SSU Over Longwood

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Patrick Hardy scored a career-high 17 points and Tracy Rankins made two free throws with one second left to lift Savannah State to a 68-66 win over Longwood in Tiger Arena.

SSU led 47-39with 13:44 left in the game but the Lancers rallied to take a 55-53 lead on a 3-pointer by Dana Smith with 6:30 remaining.

A layup by Louis Arnold gave the Tigers a 60-57 edge with just under five minutes left but Longwood tied the game at 63 with 1:53 on the clock when Antwan Carter hit a pair of free throws.

SSU led 64-63 on a Rashad Hassan free throw with 35 seconds left but Carter hit a layup and made a free throw to give the visitors a 66-64 lead with 16 seconds left.

A foul on Carter send SSU's Preston Blackmon to the free throw line where he converted two free throw attempts with two seconds on the clock.

Tracy Rankins stole the ball from Carter and was fouled by Smith with one second left.

Blackmon added 13 points and five assists for the Tigers (8-12) while Rankins scored 12 points.

The crowd of 1,011 saw Longwood jump out to a 14-9 lead.

Trailing 22-18 with 7:09 left, Hardy started a SSU rally with back to back 3-pointers and with 2:35 on the clock the Tigers led 30-25.

Savannah State led 30-29 at the half.

Longwood (4-16) was led by Smith's 20 points.

SSU, which shot 56 percent from the floor in the second period, received 10 rebounds from Louis.
