Former Savannah State men's basketball standout Javon Randolph recently helped his professional team win the World Basketball Association (WBA) league championship.
Randolph, a member of the Buford Majic, scored 25 points and dished out five assists to help his team defeat the Tupelo Rock-n-Rollers 95-93 on July 2. In a 103-97 win over the Cartersville Warriors in the semi-finals, the Gainesville, GA native had 17 points and four assists.
Brandon Williams, the Majic owner/general manager is very high on Randolph. “He was a spark for our team all season long. We never would of won the championship without him.”
Randolph averaged 17 points, five assists and two steals during the season and his efforts were good enough for him to be named to the All WBA Second Team. “I think I did alright for my first year. There were some great players on the first team who had more exposure that I did,” stated Randolph.
Williams said he plans to bring Randolph back next season as well as try to help him play at a higher level. “We are trying to work something out to get him overseas,” said Williams.
Buford finished the season with a 12-1 record.
Randolph played with SSU for two years after transferring from Truett McConnell Junior College. Randolph averaged 17 points during the 2005-06 season with the Tigers and 14.6 points during the 2006-07 season.
