SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Michael Allegretti hurled a one-hitter as Savannah State shut out Albany State 8-0 in the first game of a double-header at Tiger Field.
The Rams avoided a sweep by winning the nightcap 4-2.
It was the final home game for SSU (24-25) for the 2009 season.
Allegretti struck out four and walked one in the victory. At the plate,
Darien Campbell and Julius Green drove in two runs each while
Tristan Smith and
Dexter Kelley scored twice.
Smith reached on an error in the first inning and scored when
Andrew Mendez reached on an error. Mendez scored on a single by Kelley for a 2-0 lead.
Matt Oglesby led off the third with a triple and scored on a single by Jonathan Ross. Kelley walked and
Brett Pointer was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Campbell doubled down the left field line to bring home Ross and Kelley for a 5-0 advantage. Green filed out to center but it was deep enough to score Campbell to put SSU ahead 6-0.
Smith hit a triple in the fourth and came home after Oglesby singled and in the fifth, Green hit a RBI double to score Kelley, who led off with a single.
Clarence Brown took the loss for ASU as he gave upo 11 hits and struck out two.
In the second game, the Tigers scored two runs off four hits in the first inning as Smith and Kelley crossed the plate.
SSU pitcher
Robert Ramsdale held Albany State scoreless until the sixth when the Rams scored four times.
Ramsdale gave up five hits and fanned six batters.
Kelley had three hits for the Tigers while Smith and Pointer collected two each
